The lil' ranch with a lotta heart
WELCOME TO
RAYNE'S RIDGE
Rayne's Ridge is a family run lesson barn offering a relaxed, knowledgeable, atmosphere in New Tecumseth, ON

Adults and youth can come to learn about farm animal care, or join our day camps. How about Western riding lessons? or our popular Training lessons.

Throughout the winter months, we deliver workshops and challenges to help you build that special relationship with your friend and family.

A quick forward for winter 2025...
As a 57 year old rider and owner of 9 horses, I often start to think about if I'm just too old for this stuff. This week we are hitting lows of -27C (-16.6 F) in Ontario Canada and it is so hard to get my butt down to the barn but i get there.
I get there because my beautiful sweet (mostly lol) barn kids (aka mama's boys and girls) rely on me for food and care.
They also rely on me for their time with humans.
They need to have their brain stretched and to keep learning new things and about new people.
Communicating and teaching. They really are the best instructors.
My almost 30 year old Standardbred still needs his time with humans.
Not to be ridden anymore, he's too sore and unstable for that.
My field sound paint, my haflinger who bucks sometimes, my older draft, tb and qh all STILL need to learn and grow.
Not to win prizes or cash or even prep for those things.
My horses see me with other horses and they want to be a part of the experience every time.
I walk into the field and they come to say hello.
These guys were rescues because someone somewhere felt they were no good for anything.
Too old...
Too sore...
Too Broken
I don't believe that is true
I want to teach that old age, scary behaviour under saddle and being 'broken' does not equal the end.
It doesn't mean that they are useless 'pasture puffs' or something to send away.
They still want to learn.
They still need to learn.
They still need to spend time with humans.
So I get creative and come up with ways to share my philosophies and barn family with the world around me.
We offer Liberty workshops, equine behaviour workshops, training lessons, as well as, riding and invite the public for adult hang out nights and invite teens out to hang once a week too.
And the people that come here to Rayne's Ridge, learn to think and focus, to react calmly, to be excited about the smallest, progressive steps, and to read behaviour and find the true meaning behind it.
All for the smallest cost possible to help support these kind animals that crave connection.
They take those skills out in the world and they are such important people. Not doormats, not aggressors but people that bring just a little more kindness into the world.
I am not perfect. We don't appreciate perfect anyway. I don't always remember to practise all that they teach but I try.
Full circle.

Unchain the Behaviour
We know that when our horse reacts to things, it can become extremely dangerous. Now imagine if your horse reacts to something and you also panic or fuel the fire by becoming angry, or impatient!
How about if our horse is demonstrating a lesser unsafe behaviour and we coddle them, thereby encouraging the behaviour.

Learn to determine and practise the appropriate response that will get you the safest outcome.

Connect Emotions and Behaviours to engage in positive relationships
Determine and Describe your horse’s personality and how your reactions affect the partnership you are building.
This course was developed by Leanne using her over 20 years human counseling experience to help people learn to read the most appropriate reaction to diffuse situations in and out of the barn.

About
Our Roots
Owner, Leanne, has brought her or over 30 years of experience as a Child and Youth Counselor AND Early Childhood Educator to her programs at the Ranch. Lessons are fresh and fun while supporting human and horse safety and growth.

Growing up, Leanne was never able to afford a horse of her own or even lessons but was near them any chance she had. Of course her parents blame themselves for putting her on a horse during a vacation in her early years and they started a life long passion. She loves to foster that love in others and attempts to keep the prices affordable while offering professional education to as many people as possible.

At Rayne's Ridge, we offer lessons in Western riding, volunteer time for both adults and youth, amazing Day Camps, informative clinics and seminars, partboarding, liberty training lessons, and horsemanship lessons.

Our atmosphere is non-competitive, knowledgeable, relaxing and fun. We always keep the animal as the center of every lesson while we help create a partnership between you and your horse.

Our animals have not all had an easy life. Many were injured, abused, abandoned or treated like things. We try to rehab and allow them to be their best selves. Some are not able to engage in lessons and some are still waiting for their special person.

Horses aren't our only animals! We also are home to ducks, chickens, sheep, dogs, cats, Clara our cow and some foster animals that come and go.
We strive to eliminate the physical, cognitive and emotional barriers to participation in equestrian sports and activities and support you moving forward on your equine goals.

What We Do

Leanne worked for many years supporting those with behaviour challenges in education. Although she retired from that career behind to work full time at Rayne's Ridge, she can't help but bring it into everything she teaches.
